The number of survivors Haven served in the first quarter of the calendar year has gone up over the past few years, according to our internal service numbers from last quarter.

As Bozeman grows, the need for our services is also growing, quarter by quarter, year by year.

What type of services are these survivors accessing? Last quarter, more than a third of the survivors we served used Haven’s legal advocacy services.

What does that mean, legal advocacy? It means that our legal advocates can:

  • Walk a survivor through filing what’s called an order of protection (the Montana term for what some states refer to as a “restraining order“)

  • Prepare with a survivor for the court hearing where a judge decides whether to issue the order of protection

  • Support a survivor by physically sitting in court with them during the hearing

The legal system can be hard to navigate. Our advocates support and empower survivors on whatever path they think is the safest and best for them and for their individual situation.
