Supportive Transitions: A hand up for survivors facing housing challenges
Haven recently launched Supportive Transitions, a survivor-centered transitional housing program to fill a critical gap between emergency shelter and long-term independence. It’s a three-year pilot program, seeded by government grant funding and sustained by our community. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse and needs safe, stable housing to rebuild, this program might be for you.
Why transitional housing—and why now
At Haven’s emergency shelter, the priority is safety. But for many survivors, the next barrier is housing. Rents remain high and vacancy rates remain tight in Gallatin County, which can force survivors to choose between unsafe options or homelessness.
Transitional housing changes that. In this program, the priority is empowerment: time and stability to breathe, heal, and move forward—paired with practical support like financial education, connections to classes or job training, and one-on-one advocacy. The goal is clear: To support survivors living independently in Gallatin County.
With Haven’s Supportive Transitions program, survivors get a hand up while getting back on their feet.
Supportive Transitions: What the program offers
Safe, short-term housing designed for stability while a survivor plans next steps
Advocacy + wraparound support (budgeting, employment resources, life skills)
Connections to education and training (including college classes and certifications)
A plan for independence tailored to a survivor’s goals
Haven’s Supportive Transitions program is part of Gallatin Valley’s broader housing safety net, and is part of our work with partner organizations like HRDC and Family Promise: Each partner group addresses parts of our local housing challenges. Haven’s role involves supporting survivors of domestic violence, who make up more than half – 57 percent – of the people experiencing homelessness.
