Donors, volunteers create community garden, foster connection at The Barnard Center
What started as a weedy patch of soil is now a thriving community garden, thanks to the generosity of local donors and volunteers who’ve created yet another way that Haven is inviting the community in at The Barnard Center, Haven’s public-facing shelter complex in Bozeman.
We’re grateful for the generous support from local donors who made this possible, including:
Cashman Nursery for contributing soil
Kenyon Noble Lumber & Hardware for providing the lumber for the garden beds and fence posts
T&E for donating equipment
Bozeman Brick Block and Tile for donating additional pavers
the Gallatin Gardeners Club and Cheryl Moore-Gough for their financial contributions
This garden is a key part of our vision for The Barnard Center, which we opened last year to not only shelter more survivors, but also to provide them a public-facing and secure shelter, as many of them had told us they’d felt isolation and stigma at the former, hidden shelter location. (Read more about public-facing, disclosed-location shelters, including Haven’s, on CBS News and in the New York Times.)
We encourage all of our community to volunteer in the garden next season: Planting, maintenance, watering, helping with future expansions, and more. You can contact Casey via email.
Thank you all so much for standing with survivors in this community, and for your contributions that support The Barnard Center in so many ways.
