Haven cuts ribbon on new shelter
It’s official: The Barnard Center is now open!
We cut the ribbon on the new pet-friendly, trauma-informed shelter complex on Saturday, with partners including Tim Barnard, Bozeman Mayor Cyndy Andrus, the Haven board of directors, Martel Construction, and designers and architects from MASS Design Group.
The two-building complex will eventually allow Haven to shelter four times as many survivors as in our former shelter, as well as allowing us to:
Provide a public-facing and secure shelter for survivors, many of whom told us that they felt isolation and stigma at the former, hidden shelter location. Read more about security measures and safety at the new shelter here.
Welcome both survivors and their pets — up to 65 percent of survivors delay leaving an abusive relationship for fear of what would happen to their pets.
Offer an emergency shelter that’s been designed to help survivors of trauma heal. Read more about trauma-informed design here and here.
Thank you to this community for making this new shelter complex possible!
