Preventing violence in the community: Ask us about Haven’s made-to-order presentations for your group, business, or organization!

Did you know? Haven also does violence-prevention work in the community as part of our holistic view of intimate-partner violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking. While we operate a shelter and a 24-hour support line as ways to intervene in and interrupt violence, the work our prevention coordinator does in Gallatin Valley is aimed at preventing violence before it starts.

So what does this work entail? It involves elevating the voices and experiences of survivors in our survivor speakers’ bureau, End the Silence, and involves giving high-school students the resources to educate their peers about healthy relationships and sexuality (in partnership with Bridgercare). Our prevention coordinator also does presentations for students and other groups to get people thinking about healthy relationships.

These presentations have entailed:

  •  co-leading an “In Her Shoes” activity about the paths that someone experiencing domestic violence might end up taking, for a psychology class at Montana State, in partnership with The Voice Center

  •  collaborating on short videos in Spanish about healthy relationships, in partnership with Thrive

  •  co-leading a workshop at the Billings Clinic that helped area students and parents go beyond just the birds and the bees, in partnership with Bridgercare

These are just a few of the presentations and workshops we’ve done so far. You can also ask for a presentation or workshop completely tailored to your group or business.

Email us today to request your made-to-order presentation for your group or business. We’re looking forward to stopping the cycle of violence with you and your friends or colleagues.

Ending domestic violence, sex trafficking, and stalking requires a social, political, and economic environment created to ensure that all people affected by these forms of abuse are supported, and abusers are held accountable. Success means we must all be part of the solution.
